This is my favorite sewing project so far! I think it’s because of my obsession with school supplies and accessories of the like..
And I also think this would make a great gift for a lot of friends of mine.. heh…
So this fabric I found at Hobby Lobby was perfect for our Bibles. I’ve already made some other stuff out of it, but I still had some left.
This project is really simple and takes about 20 minutes to make.
You will need:
- Fabric, one or two choices.
- Sewing machine
Items in italics are obvious, but I didn’t want to insult you.
Anyway, our Bibles are 7.5 x 6.5′.
So I cut my material as follows:
2 pieces background fabric- 7.5 x 4′
2 pieces pocket fabric – 6 x 4′
Interfacing, 1 piece 7.5 x 4′. 1 piece 6 x 4′
Elastic pieces – 7.5 – 8 ‘
Here are some links to materials:
Elastic – This is the exact stuff I used.
Interfacing – Makes the project more sturdy – (optional). I also see this at Walmart all the time.
I got the material I used at Hobby Lobby. They probably still have it. lol.
Janome Hello Kitty sewing machine – I got this machine for Roo not last Christmas, but the one before. I also had a $50 gc from Jo-ann fabric, so I got it for $100. I say this all the time, but I am still amazed at this machine. I mean, you just can’t get a machine that cheap that is as sturdy as this one. I’ve made soo soo many things on it and have not had one problem. Not one! It’s heavy weight which I like… I alsolutely hate the brother machines and the new singer machines that I can pretty much toss across the room because they’re so light. They actually fall off the table while you’re sewing because they can’t hold themselves down.
So anyway, my point is… Janome so far has been a great brand for me. lol. Well, for Roo… when I finally give her machine back. hahahahahhaa
But I highly reccomend this brand for a really good inexpensive machine! They have a variety of Hello Kitty ones now… they are all on amazon. So you can’t go wrong. Some are less than $100.
So here is our process video to learn how to make these YUMMY pen totes… highlighter cozies… Book buddies… BIBLE BACKPACKS! It’s really a Bible frontpack because that’s where I put mine… but I guess you could also put it on the back.. Just hate the whole…not laying flat thing.. hahaha
We hope you have fun making these for all your friends!
Or making these for all your books! heh…
Enjoy! And have a blessed week!!
