It’s Day 4 already!

Today we have made for you some stuffed Christmas Trees.  (Been watching too much chopped…)

Anyway…  these are again, a super easy craft that is perfect for beginner sewing enthusiasts and people that like mushrooms on their pizza.

Like the pillow cases,  materials needed are slim.

TRISMAS TREE TOURNAMENTS!   I mean…

CHRISTMAS TREE Hangy STUFFINGS!

You will need:

  1. Fabric of choosing
  2. Stuffing or polyfil
  3. Trim, ribbon, or lace for decorating
  4. Sewing machine that also doubles as a heater/radio.  Oh, I guess that makes it triple.  Actually.. .a plain ol’ sewing machine should do the trick… just in less comfort.
  5. Ribbon if you are making them hangy.
  6. Potpourri if you are stuffing them to put in your husbands sock pile.
  7. Hot glue if you just wanna nix the sewing machine and make a hot mess…  heh…

Tree ornamnets

Watch our day 4 video for the directions on how to make these in the most talky drawn out time consuming way possible.  lol.   I’m sure you’re smart enough to get out the important bits.  Roo and I can beat around the bush a bit…  my apologies.

Check back tomorrow for some other type of craft that might involve sheep, pumpernickel, or recorders.

Cinnamon Stick Reindeer

You will need:

  1. Cinnamon Sticks
  2. Hot glue gun
  3. Black and White acrylic paints
  4. Twigs or toothpicks for antlers
  5. Cat ear headbands to wear
  6. Ribbon or twine for reindeer scarves
  7. Cotton if you want fluffy tails
  8. Pickles and pulp free OJ for snacking

12 Crafts of Christmas – Day 1- Old Book Advent Calendar

Well it’s the first day of the 12 crafts of Christmas series Roo and I are hosting for this year!  Here is the trailer we put together:

This will involve 12 DAYS of crafts that you can make to prepare for the holidays or just to watch for fun while you’re doing your own Christmas crafts… We hope to distract you from the stress and anxiety of Christmas and focus on setting aside time to have fun with friends and family!

Some of the projects are related to home decor, some can be used to make as presents, and some are just for fun. Skills included are some basic sewing, easy crocheting or knitting, kid crafts, and a little scrapbooking/altered type projects. From November 19-30, there will be one craft video posted each evening. Though we are by no means experts in any of this, we thought it would be fun to share what we like to do.  Because after all, that’s what life is about, sharing, growing, and connecting with people.  So feel free to comment with tips on more effective ways of getting the same results…. or maybe an altered version of one of our projects that you came up with! We love getting new ideas!

I have to warn you, so far these videos are turning out way longer than we had planned, so I’ll try and post minute markers as to where the meat is if you’re short on time. A little shenaniganing is expected but not completely necessary to make any of these crafts were are carrying.

Day 1’s craft is going to be an ongoing thing throughout the 12 days.  Because it’s a rather lengthy project, it was not completed in entirety before video one was scheduled to be posted. So I thought it might be fun to do a final reveal on day 12. And because it’s an advent calendar, December 1st will see it’s first use anyway…    Also, I think it’s the kind of project that sparks ideas as you go.  So I don’t think it will ever be completely finished. I plan on adding photos to it for upcoming years as well.

Old Book Advent Calendar

For this craft you will need:

  1. 25 Old books
  2. Mod podge
  3. Binder Clips or some sorta clamp
  4. Decorative fabric and paper
  5. Embellishments…  stickers… stamps… buttons… etc…
  6. Optional: paint or watercolor..
  7. An exacto knife, or anything you might think will work to cut through the pages easily.
  8. Coffee or hot chocolate
  9. Snacks

As far as the books go, I’ve collected them over the years at yard sales, flea markets, or consignment type shops. You can use new books, but I just feel the old falling apart ones give a little charm.  But after all, you are going to decorate them how you like, so you can give em a little antique look if they aren’t quite old enough. Or you could go for a more modern looking set. You might use newer books and make a sleeker design. Maybe even use a set of Christmas childrens books? There are endless ideas you could come up with….  easiest and more inexpensive way is to come up with something that uses stuff you already have.

And even if you don’t want to go to all the trouble to make an advent calendar, you could also just make a few to give as as photo gifts for grandparents or whomever!  Just use the book as a frame and decorate!

So here is Video 1 for the 12 Crafts of Christmas:  I reccomend watching in HD.

I’ve uploaded it to the max 1080, but 720 is also acceptable… lower than that and the craft is harder to view…   so just adjust your quality because I think the default is 360.  And on top of that, we were forced to record at night… and we used the ipad since I have yet to get a new camera since it busted…  so overall filming quality was not at it’s best from the get go…   yikes!

The craft actually starts around minute 9…  heh..

Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for our special guest in tomorrow’s video!

Broke

So all that happened this weekend…  as well as Roo giving Kevin an extensive makeover which has now left him unrecognizable…

….   and in other news…

Happy Memorial Day a bit late…   Thank you to all those who have lost their lives serving for our country and all those who who are serving currently! A thank you is not enough…

Roo had her ride in a first as far as parades go…  she joined Graceway Bible Church and her Awana friends for the Hamilton parade.

I tried to hold together the camera lens long enough to snap a few pics…  didn’t quite want to focus…  Some part of me didn’t really think it was broken.  I mean… it was still holding on… Well part of it is still holding on to the base… lol.. I just thought it was going to take me an extra 5 minutes to take a photo each time.  Highly annoying, but doable and 1 out of 10 might be in focus… no big…

oh well…

I also thought it was funny that this dress Roo chose to wear has survived at least 6 closet purges in Roo’s room over the past two years…

We made it for July 4th 2013:

July-4-fitty-memorial-day-patriotic-madebyfitty-roo

and I think merely because she wears it often even just around the house, we just kept it in the rotation…

Besides the outer tuley layer it’s all jersey knit, so it’s quite stretchy.

Next year it will called a “top” instead of a “dress.”

I like her choice of footwear as well…

because these red star boots she used to always wear with it, (even in the summer)  are definitely too small and have now been passed down to smaller feet.

I just realized I have a handful of scrapbook layouts of her in this dress…

I think for this July 4th we’ll have to make something new…

Anyway…

The good news is the phone still works!  Perhaps I’ll embellish it with some cute washi and packing tape!  I have to say though…  I’ve dropped that iphone 4 soo soo soo many times, I’m actually shocked it took me this long to finally break it.  And this time it just kinda fell out of my sweatshirt pocket as I was taking it off.
