Wilna’s Bear Coffee Cup Challenge

So this past friday night, Eleanor and I were hanging in the craft room and felt like watching some crafty vids on youtube while we played with glue and stuff. I scrolled through my subscriptions and came upon Wilna Furstenberg. And I was like.. “Yes!” She is our favorite paper crafter to watch on Youtube and it had been a while since we tuned in. So the first video we came across was this adorable coffee cup album featuring these adorable bears. As we continued to watch, she started talking about having a contest for whomever makes one of these albums and shares it on instagram. So we looked at each other and said, “Let’s DO IT!” And then we immediately scrambled into the kitchen to look for some paper coffee cups. We didn’t find any. It was almost 11pm. We walked out into the living room to ask Daryl if he thought Dunkin Donuts might still be open. He said yes and requested a hot chocolate. That was good enough for us, so we hopped in the car and drove to DD.

They were closed.

But luckily across the street from Dunkin is a McDonalds. That was open, so we decided to grab a few cups of hot beverage there. We got back home, dumped the liquid, and started working.

Wilna had links to some downloads we could use in the album. First, there were the ADORABLE watercolor bear images that she created! And also there were beautiful frames you could use to embellish your album. She also included cut files you could use for your Silhouette Cameo. Part of me is glad she included these cut files because it forced me to finally try out the print and cut feature on this machine. I can’t believe how long I’ve had my Silhouette and have never print and cut. It was so easy. And it really saved time fussy cutting images.

I was originally going to make my album about Norma, but as I scrolled through my phone, I had all these pictures of Eleanor posing in her Christmas Eve dress that I decided it would be a good way to use them.

Here are the details for this challenge if anyone else would like to play along: http://wilnafurstenberg.com/bears

You should visit her site anyway because she is amazing! Love her.

Eleanor chose to feature her new baby cousin Joshua. Sometimes I think she thinks he’s her doll that she can just play with as she pleases. So far, he lets her. He’s quite a content little guy. So we printed out some of the pics I had of them for her album. The cover is a cute snapchat pic of him as a deer. lol.  He makes a pretty cute little deer.

She loved the bear illustrations so much I think she used them all! They are adorable. The one I chose for my cover has a little dog on it’s head… which is why I originally wanted to do an album about Norma, … I might still do that. I saved another coffee cup.   On top of a lot of bears, Eleanor also used a bucket of hot glue sticks. I had to pick a lot of strings off her album when she was done. lol.  And it also made her album much bulkier than mine. I think she did a great job. It came out super cute!

We had so much fun making these albums. If anyone else decides to try one, we’d love to see it! The instagram hashtag is #bearscoffeecupchallenge.

Anyway, thanks again Wilna for the inspiration. See ya’ll later!

God Bless!

We glued, we misted, we sewed, we sliced, we stamped, and we embossed! And by the end of the night, everyone was a boss at embossing!

Some of the gang’s favorite items that we used were: ( all items linked to purchase)

Foam dots- to make things stand out and give dimension

Heidi Swapp- Color Shine – misting spray

Embossing powder, ink, and heat gun

Enamel dots

Liquid glass

Scotch Glue Glider – the big tape runner thingie 🙂

And here is a link to the handout I made for the workshop:

I think this has inspired Roo and I to do some more card making for the upcoming season, so be on the look out for some tutorials!

Hope everyone has a blessed week and enjoy your Sunday!

Bible Journaling – 1 Corinthians 10:31

So the next verse in our scripture memory challenge is:

1 Corinthians 10:31English Standard Version (ESV)

31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

image

I decided to shorten it just a little and illustrate the “eat or drink” part. Lol…  This was one of those pages that I didn’t really think about…  I didn’t even plan on doing any bible journaling after church, but it just kinda happened. The mood took over.  Actually, it was a very inspired day Sunday.  I ended up doing a lot of things that didn’t fall into the “cleaning and laundry” category.  Everything fell more into the “drink coffee, eat ice cream, and get creative” category.  I think the Pastor’s sermon kinda inspired me. He was talking about how if you stopped and just looked around at this world…. this creation…. how could you not know God exists? And again… Truth was spoken. I mean seriously… how could you not know? How could anything but an awesome creator imagine this stuff? Why are there trees and why do I care how pretty they look?

So here is a speedy process with some YouTube music. Lol.  I was sick of hearing myself talk.

And here is a link to Our Church’s YouTube channel! You can check out all the sermons so far here:

Have a blessed week!

Friday Scrapbooking – Beach Mini Album- (con’t)

20160708_231339000_iOS

Yay!  Crafty Scrapsniffin’ friday!!!

It was a rainy poury friday as well! But I made it home fairly dry! Just in time to write this up!

I know it hasn’t been the happiest of weeks as we are all aware.  I won’t get into that here, but the prayer warriors are busy! And though it’s so hard, we shouldn’t worry because God’s hand is on everything. 🙂 But I love seeing my friends becoming more connected in the midst of these tragedies. I love how they are using it for good. I love how it’s encouraging people to spread the Gospel and be bold!

And I love that we have these creative outlets to get zoned into!

Today I decided to work on my Mini Beach album… from a couple years ago…  I did some pages last summer… but haven’t really pulled it out since…  so here goes!

image

For the bottom of the pages, I used this texture paste with a palate knife  and kinda spread it and then tapped on it to make more … texture. Lol.  And then I sprinkled some pale glitter over top… just coz… ya know… glitter.

Here’s a link to the exact paste I used:

Heidi Swapp Texture paste in Gold

The other stuff was either from my stash or too old for me to remember where I got it.  Lol.  Actually, I shouldn’t say that…  but it’s mostly basic stuff like watercolor… sequins… black pen… foam adhesive.

image

So there’s not much goin into this album overall… like I babble about in the video, I love mini albums because they usually follow a theme, so it makes it easier to embellish because you don’t have to re-invent every page.

image

So this came together really quickly and with minimal brain power. And when you have nice sunny pics, there really isn’t too much needed to support em.

So here’s my process:

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend and spends some time getting creative!!

12 Crafts of Christmas- Day 7 – Button Christmas Trees!

For Day 7 we have another kid friendly craft hosted by Kool Kitty and Crazy Cat!

image

BUTTON CHRISTMAS TREES!

You will need:

  1. A canvas, piece of wood, mini album cover, cardboard… anything you want to use to put your tree on.
  2. Buttons
  3. Paint
  4. Hot glue or Elmers
  5. …  and then if you’re Crazy Cat and Kool Kitty you’ll end up using cotton balls, glitter, glittery pom poms, scrapbook embellishments, beads, highlighters… etc…

image

So as you can see, you can really step outside the box and use anything to make your tree, but essentially all you need is some spare buttons and some glue.  You can paint your star, or you can use a sticker…  you can paint your trunk as well if you don’t have cinnamon sticks or even a twig to glue on.

Here is the girls video of their crafting fun!

Enjoy and Stay tuned tomorrow for our Christmas Thanksgiving craft!

12 Crafts of Christmas – Day 6 – Woofie Warmers

Today is for gettin’ snuggy!

image

I’m pretty sure many of you are pet lovers so we thought we’d incorporate a doggie/fuzzy pet project in the mix.

It’s gettin chilly out there and your wittle woofies need to keep warm!!

image

In this craft, we show you how to crochet a super super simple style “Woofie Warmer.”  Essentially, it’s just a mini scarf I guess you could say, but in the interest of making something suitable for a doggie, we thought we’d give it a different name.

WOOFIE WARMERS!

You will need:

1.Wool/Yarn of choice

2.Crochet Hook

3. Buttons to fasten

4. Needle and thread or use yarn to attach

Like I mention in the video, the chunkier the yarn, the bigger the hook you’ll need. I am making the middle woofie warmer (shown in pic above) during the tutorial so for that I used a J sized hook.

This project uses only a single crochet stitch so it’s perfect for a beginner.  After chaining, you single crochet all the way! Then it’s edged with a slip stitch and that’s it! Attach the buttons and you’re done!

So far Norma is really enjoying her neck temperature when we go outside… heh…

image

I think she looks rather appropriate don’t you?

And here’s the video!  Stay tuned tomorrow for another episode of the 12 Crafts of Christmas featuring Crazy Cat and Kool Kitty again!!

12 Crafts of Christmas – Day 5 – Scripture Present Tags

It’s Monday and we’re gonna make this evenings craft light and easy.

image

All that is really required are some tags and some pens.. perhaps a stamp or watercolors.

You can grab these tags pretty cheap at any craft store, or you could make your own.  They also sell tag punches.

Here is a link to a tag/twine duo on Amazon: Kraft Tags

And here is a link to a Tag punch: PUNCH

So it all depends on how much you think you will actually use tags.  I end up using them more than can think of.  Most frequently I use them in scrapbooking. And sometimes they end up in my planner or as a bookmark.

I had a pile of these Kraft tags, so I decided to use them to make some decorations for my Christmas presents. For some reason, I love the look of a brown Kraft tag hanging off a gift or gift bag. I went pretty rustic and simple with my designs.

image

I started of by edging the tags with a dark ink. This is one of those little steps that I feel like if I skip, makes such a big difference. It really just adds such a nice punch to the border. Then I ended up putting a base of watercolor. Nothing special, just any kinda color to give it a pale coating. Little dripping on some, but mostly a light wash.  After that I decided what Scripture to use on each. And though you might be the type of person who hates their handwriting, I think this is the type of project that lends well to a variety of writing styles. Because of the craft and the watercolor, it kind of already has a crafty look, so I think the imperfect handwriting really lends well to it.

image

I do have one set of Scripture stamps from Close to my heart so I used one stamp from that for the Anchor tag. So I might have picked something else to go with this Anchor, like Hebrews 6:19, but in this instance I actually thought that block print went well visually with it. I have some anchor themed fabric, so I used that to eyeball while I was drawing this one. It was kinda a no-brainer because I used the fabric to make myself a zipper pouch to hold my pens and highlighters so it was sitting right next to me. I just kinda looked over and said… “Oh… that would make a good tag graphic…”

“19 This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil

 Hebrews 6

The pens I used to doodle with are these MICRON pens. They are the 005 size so ideal for super skinny lines.

image

So yea, I think before we get all wrapped up in the shopping spirit, we ought not to forget why we are here and why we are celebrating Christmas in the first place. It may not be the day exactly, but let our hearts be on the right track and our minds in the right place.

I made a nice, short video of the doodling if you so choose to set your eyes, other than that, enjoy this week of Thanksgiving and God Bless!

For some reason the music is taking a bit to attach itself to this vid, so if it’s still silent, I apologize… but should be together shortly!

12 Crafts of Christmas – Day 3 – Easy sewing – Christmas Pillow Makeovers!

image

For Day 3 of the 12 crafts of Christmas, Roo and I decided to jazz up the living room by covering up the ugly with festive! So we wrapped our pillows in Holiday fabric!  This is one of the easiest sewing projects as well as one of the quickest.

Pillow Covers

image

You will need:

  1. Festive Fabric
  2. Hello Kitty sewing machine.  Or boring plain sewing machine with nothing decorative on it at all.
  3. Coffee. We ran out today.  I don’t know how I let this happen. Someone bring me coffee.  Thanks.
  4. Pins

These are pillow sham style so they are completely removeable, so you can take em off and wash em.  Or maybe you leave em on all year because you’re that type of peeps.

image

Here is our Day 3 vid…  sry for the nighty time… but that starts at like 4:30 so it’s hard to avoid sometimes…  we promise to do some of these in the daytime when people are alive.  🙂

Tune in tomorrow for stuffed Christmas Tree Ornament making!

12 Crafts of Christmas – Day 1- Old Book Advent Calendar

Well it’s the first day of the 12 crafts of Christmas series Roo and I are hosting for this year!  Here is the trailer we put together:

This will involve 12 DAYS of crafts that you can make to prepare for the holidays or just to watch for fun while you’re doing your own Christmas crafts… We hope to distract you from the stress and anxiety of Christmas and focus on setting aside time to have fun with friends and family!

Some of the projects are related to home decor, some can be used to make as presents, and some are just for fun. Skills included are some basic sewing, easy crocheting or knitting, kid crafts, and a little scrapbooking/altered type projects. From November 19-30, there will be one craft video posted each evening. Though we are by no means experts in any of this, we thought it would be fun to share what we like to do.  Because after all, that’s what life is about, sharing, growing, and connecting with people.  So feel free to comment with tips on more effective ways of getting the same results…. or maybe an altered version of one of our projects that you came up with! We love getting new ideas!

I have to warn you, so far these videos are turning out way longer than we had planned, so I’ll try and post minute markers as to where the meat is if you’re short on time. A little shenaniganing is expected but not completely necessary to make any of these crafts were are carrying.

image

Day 1’s craft is going to be an ongoing thing throughout the 12 days.  Because it’s a rather lengthy project, it was not completed in entirety before video one was scheduled to be posted. So I thought it might be fun to do a final reveal on day 12. And because it’s an advent calendar, December 1st will see it’s first use anyway…    Also, I think it’s the kind of project that sparks ideas as you go.  So I don’t think it will ever be completely finished. I plan on adding photos to it for upcoming years as well.

Old Book Advent Calendar

For this craft you will need:

  1. 25 Old books
  2. Mod podge
  3. Binder Clips or some sorta clamp
  4. Decorative fabric and paper
  5. Embellishments…  stickers… stamps… buttons… etc…
  6. Optional: paint or watercolor..
  7. An exacto knife, or anything you might think will work to cut through the pages easily.
  8. Coffee or hot chocolate
  9. Snacks

As far as the books go, I’ve collected them over the years at yard sales, flea markets, or consignment type shops. You can use new books, but I just feel the old falling apart ones give a little charm.  But after all, you are going to decorate them how you like, so you can give em a little antique look if they aren’t quite old enough. Or you could go for a more modern looking set. You might use newer books and make a sleeker design. Maybe even use a set of Christmas childrens books? There are endless ideas you could come up with….  easiest and more inexpensive way is to come up with something that uses stuff you already have.

And even if you don’t want to go to all the trouble to make an advent calendar, you could also just make a few to give as as photo gifts for grandparents or whomever!  Just use the book as a frame and decorate!

So here is Video 1 for the 12 Crafts of Christmas:  I reccomend watching in HD.

I’ve uploaded it to the max 1080, but 720 is also acceptable… lower than that and the craft is harder to view…   so just adjust your quality because I think the default is 360.  And on top of that, we were forced to record at night… and we used the ipad since I have yet to get a new camera since it busted…  so overall filming quality was not at it’s best from the get go…   yikes!

The craft actually starts around minute 9…  heh..

Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for our special guest in tomorrow’s video!
