BUTTON CHRISTMAS TREES!

You will need:

  1. A canvas, piece of wood, mini album cover, cardboard… anything you want to use to put your tree on.
  2. Buttons
  3. Paint
  4. Hot glue or Elmers
  5. …  and then if you’re Crazy Cat and Kool Kitty you’ll end up using cotton balls, glitter, glittery pom poms, scrapbook embellishments, beads, highlighters… etc…

So as you can see, you can really step outside the box and use anything to make your tree, but essentially all you need is some spare buttons and some glue.  You can paint your star, or you can use a sticker…  you can paint your trunk as well if you don’t have cinnamon sticks or even a twig to glue on.

Here is the girls video of their crafting fun!

Mother’s Day on the farm…

When all the grandkids are together, it’s always an opportunity for an interesting photo shoot…

I was shopping on saturday for a specific project I need to get finished in the next week and in my travels I came across some kids face paint sets.  Roo immediately flipped because she’s been begging me to get face paint since probably the first time she ever got her face painted.  So I’ve been meaning to look up some face paint online, but low and behold we ran into some Snazaroo kits in Michaels.  And I know this brand, because it’s what her school always used, so I know she hasn’t had any kinda reactions to it.  So after a vote between Roo, my neice Norah, and myself, we decided we’d get it and bring it to the farm on Mother’s Day to share with my nephews as well.

Well, I can’t lie and say they weren’t excited.

They immediately started fighting over who gets painted first.  But they ended up letting Roo go first since she was the only one who made up her mind what she wanted to be.  Then needless to say, once the oldest decided, a story started evolving and a pack of wolves was born.

Though I think the story started taking a sad twist when I found them like this:

EEEK!  And it’s even sadder that I can’t say this is the first time I’ve found them playing out a scene like this.  Last time, roo was tied to a pole and I believe they were making indian sounds while hopping on one foot circling her.  I’m not sure if we should burn the TV’s or if these are school playground games…   But regardless, roo always seems to be the victim.  I’m starting to have flashbacks of my own childhood through her. AHHHH!

But not to worry, she came out ok.  I mean, I don’t think butterflies are a wolf’s favorite meal anyhow.  Especially a mother’s day meal…. despite that this butterfly was particularly meaty, turned out the wolves weren’t that hungry anyway.

See!  She’s happy to be getting out though.

And I’m happy to report that this face paint was quite easy to wash off.  The weekend before the girls got their faces painted at a town-wide yard sale thing… and they stayed “colors” until about wednesday.  So points for Snazaroo!  And points that it has Roo’s name in it!  If it makes Roo feel more Snazzy, I like it.

This dumpster was real excited to be my prop of choice for many of the photos…   heh…

So I’m now ordered to bring the face paint to every family gathering, so I’ve certainly started something.  And it beats having them sit inside and play video games!

Hershey Revisual

So this is our third trip to Hershey with the kiddies. I think that means it’s officially a tradition… but this was the first time we visited the Gardens there.

HP-roo-facepainting-01

This face painter was not only talented… but a face-painting warrior! She battled kids knocking into her and invading her space, she re-painted several times areas roo had wiped off, and she didn’t even flinch when the biggest flying waspy bee thing landed on her ear whilst Nins and I screamed and pointed and went…”omg…omg…OMG..”

I thought it was so weird that Roo would choose to have a unicorn painted on her face and then have it shellacked with glitter…
That last statement is the biggest lie ever.

This one needs a caption… I think they were looking for the rock garden on the map… They as in Noah and Eleanor… Luke was contemplating whether he should start that online rocket science course, or just play baseball next weekend.

This one kinda looks like two kids in love running off into big piles of roses to live happily ever after… until one falls down or gets a rose thorn prick and runs back crying for a bandaid. Or until they realize they’re cousins.

Was a good weekend trip as usually. Thanks Aunt Nins for Roo’s b-day present! We had an awesome time!

Oh, and a little side-note about taking a Food Allergy kid to Hershey Park: Don’t know about anyone else’s experience, but so far it’s been one of the easier places to deal with. For some reason the first time I was going to take her there I thought… “OMG, I can’t take her to HERSHEY!?!…” For some reason in my head I just pictured kids running around with peanut butter in their hair and wiping Reese’s peanutbutter cup residue all over the rides… and …etc… But after I dared to go there, I realized that it’s no different than any other amusement park that sells candy and has roasted peanut stands. I just made sure I had her meds close at hand… two sets of EPI pens… and clorox wipes to wipe down any ride or seat that I felt needed wiping.
And as far as restaurants and food in general. The Hershey Park website has all the allergens listed by place so I was able to pick out places she could eat before we even went, and if I wasn’t sure, I could just go to my phone and double-check online. There was a restaurant we ate at in the hotel that I couldn’t find any information about online, so when we got there, I asked the waitress if she had any allergen information and she was very sweet and asked me what her allergies were and said she would go discuss it with the chef. Not five minutes later, the chef himself came out to double-check and ask me what she liked to eat. Long story-short, he made her dinner and brought it out himself and said he used separate cooking pans and utensils and made her a batch of fries with new oil also separate from the rest. I can’t say I’ve ever had any restaurant be so attentive when it came to food allergies. I almost cried I think…

So I give Hershey great marks for that… I should probably write a letter or something…
