Close to my heart- Sugar Rush – stamping and fussy cutting – Love Art

Lately Friday nights have been crafty.

img_1886

Last friday we stayed up late again with some watercolors.  I love how kids can just come up with 10 paintings in one night and adults can maybe…  maybe complete one.

img_3449

So I decided to snap a pic of her painting in her light up kitty ear headphones and scrap it… immediately.  lol.

The stamp set I used was the January Stamp of the month set.

This month is is this:

Easter Bunny

So you can get prepared for Easter!  lol.  It’s a good idea to take advantage of the stamp of the month, because you can get it for $5 with a qualifying order. And then it’s gone…. sniff sniff….

So for this layout I made embellishments by stamping, coloring and fussy cutting. You can see this process in the video below.

Stuff I used in this layout:

Micro tip Scissors

Water colors

Water color pencils

Sugar Rush kit

Foam tape

And then I made a coordinating pocket page for the other side.  This seems to be my go-to style.  One 12×12 and a pocket page….  lol.

We did a part 1 and part 2 process since it was kinda long…

We’ll be back for more crafting next week!  God Bless!

Friday Scrapbooking – Beach Mini Album- (con’t)

20160708_231339000_iOS

Yay!  Crafty Scrapsniffin’ friday!!!

It was a rainy poury friday as well! But I made it home fairly dry! Just in time to write this up!

I know it hasn’t been the happiest of weeks as we are all aware.  I won’t get into that here, but the prayer warriors are busy! And though it’s so hard, we shouldn’t worry because God’s hand is on everything. 🙂 But I love seeing my friends becoming more connected in the midst of these tragedies. I love how they are using it for good. I love how it’s encouraging people to spread the Gospel and be bold!

And I love that we have these creative outlets to get zoned into!

Today I decided to work on my Mini Beach album… from a couple years ago…  I did some pages last summer… but haven’t really pulled it out since…  so here goes!

image

For the bottom of the pages, I used this texture paste with a palate knife  and kinda spread it and then tapped on it to make more … texture. Lol.  And then I sprinkled some pale glitter over top… just coz… ya know… glitter.

Here’s a link to the exact paste I used:

Heidi Swapp Texture paste in Gold

The other stuff was either from my stash or too old for me to remember where I got it.  Lol.  Actually, I shouldn’t say that…  but it’s mostly basic stuff like watercolor… sequins… black pen… foam adhesive.

image

So there’s not much goin into this album overall… like I babble about in the video, I love mini albums because they usually follow a theme, so it makes it easier to embellish because you don’t have to re-invent every page.

image

So this came together really quickly and with minimal brain power. And when you have nice sunny pics, there really isn’t too much needed to support em.

So here’s my process:

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend and spends some time getting creative!!

12 Crafts of Christmas- Day 12 – December Daily Album

You didn’t think I’d make it through all 12 crafts without getting scrappy did you??? Ha! Well… I actually didn’t get too scrappy yet. But the scrapfest is inevitable due to this self-given prompt.

So for those of you who aren’t wrapped up in the Scrapbooking community like I am… especially around this time of year… you may not know what “December Daily” means.

This whole December Daily thing was started by Ali Edwards, a very talented scrapbooker among other things… So if you want to join in and are clueless, she has some kits to get you started on her site: Aliedwards.com

I have nothing new so far myself.  I’m aiming to jump into my stash and make most of it a kind of organic whatever I can find type thing. But I may grab a few festive bits here and there.

The idea is to document the month of december… daily…  with some kind of story. Even if you sat on the couch all day and watched “Elf,” you should include that. I don’t think there are any problems coming up with material to scrap because it’s the busiest month for most and there are usually at least 9 different parties to attend.

image

Well, I hate to admit this, but I’ve never actually finished a December Daily album. I’ve started them… had the best intentions… but for some reason… they just never got to the point of being display worthy. To be totally honest, most of my own mini albums never get finished.  I only finish the ones that I make as gifts. I must need that “deadline” to actually make things happen.

But this year, I’ve decided is the year! And I think the key is organization. In past years, I’ve waited until after the holidays to even think about this album. So this year, my last craft for the 12 Crafts of Christmas will be the first step to making my December Daily a reality!

image

I probably would have used another old book… but they all went to my Advent Calendar… lol.

I found this plain Kraft Binder that I never used. I believe I got it from Close to My Heart. But they have them at any craft supply store in all kinds of sizes.

So I’m looking at this binder… and I just didn’t want to do what I usually would do which is cover it with fabric, so I slept on it.  The idea came to me at 6am to paint it like a Christmas door… so I got up and got started.  Lol…    coffee is always made at that time anyway because I set it up the night before for my husband to just push the button in the morning before he leaves for work. So I got to work in my Christmas Owl jammies mommy got me for Christmas last year… and I got my cup of coffee and started marking out where I wanted  to cut holes for the top part of the door. I know I want to make the first inside page something that can peek through the cover.  Haven’t exactly planned it out yet, but that will be for another post. This is strictly a cover post.

image

I did end up using some fabric for the side. So… a little won’t hurt. But I think overall, I’m keeping the color scheme cool. I did a blue berry wreath on the front instead of a red one. Mainly because I had blue paint handy.  So after I saw the blue and white I mentally decided on a blue, grey, white color palatte for the rest.

image

So there’s nothing really to tell here because all I did was paint it so far. But I did a video of the painting if anyone wants a tutorial on how to paint an old white door with a blueberry wreath on it.  heh…  Well, not necessarily a tutorial because I don’t know anything about painting except that I like to do it.

So I used Golden Acrylics: Zinc White, Cerulean Blue, and Mars Black. A couple of Artist’s loft brushes, a sponge, and my fingers.  I may still add some green holly leaves perhaps. Haven’t decided if that will wreck the coldness of the cover.  We shall see!

Oh, and I also used an exacto knife to cut out the holes it the door! It wasn’t hard. The album is like a chipboard.. so didn’t take long to break through!

Anyway, thanks to all who have followed us through our 12 crafts!  We hope this has inspired someone to get crafty this Christmas!

Here is my painting vid to music. I like to listen to music when I paint so I figured I’d stop talking for this one. Lol. I was listening to Band of Horses and Andrew Bird while I painted this… but I don’t think I’m allowed to use their music for my video. haha… But I do reccomend doing your own painting while listening to them.

God Bless! Happy December!

12 Crafts of Christmas- Day 7 – Button Christmas Trees!

For Day 7 we have another kid friendly craft hosted by Kool Kitty and Crazy Cat!

image

BUTTON CHRISTMAS TREES!

You will need:

  1. A canvas, piece of wood, mini album cover, cardboard… anything you want to use to put your tree on.
  2. Buttons
  3. Paint
  4. Hot glue or Elmers
  5. …  and then if you’re Crazy Cat and Kool Kitty you’ll end up using cotton balls, glitter, glittery pom poms, scrapbook embellishments, beads, highlighters… etc…

image

So as you can see, you can really step outside the box and use anything to make your tree, but essentially all you need is some spare buttons and some glue.  You can paint your star, or you can use a sticker…  you can paint your trunk as well if you don’t have cinnamon sticks or even a twig to glue on.

Here is the girls video of their crafting fun!

Enjoy and Stay tuned tomorrow for our Christmas Thanksgiving craft!

More Summer Art

Well… this was supposed to be within the realm of the hashtag #LoveSummerArt party, but youtube decided it didn’t want to upload my video till wednesday… so it missed the cut-off!

But none the less, it is an update to my Mini Beach Album!

image

These pages feature Norah and Eleanor again. The left photo being my favorite from the whole bunch all together…

image

These pages use a lot of gel medium in matte.  I kinda use it to hold the whole thing together.

image

Also in use are the following:

Stamps, mists, misc. book pages, scrapbook paper, a piece of flair, stamps, thread, a couple brads, black india ink, watercolor, and a very delicate die cut made by my Silhouette.  LOVE THAT MACHINE!!!

And here is the process vid!

#LoveSummerArt

So there’s this amazing Hashtag Party goin’ on this weekend and it’s all kinds of Artastic!!  #LOVESUMMERART

image

If you’re an artist/creator youtuber, you can join the facebook group here: Youtube Channel Art and Crafts

If you are not a youtube creator and just want to enjoy the Arty vids, then just simply type in the hashtag #LoveSummerArt in the search bar on youtube and see what comes up!  I happened upon this by accident really… lol.  So as usual, I had like a day to come up with something… but it gave me an opportunity to pick up something I started and never finished.

So here is my #LoveSummerArt vid:

I had started a “beach” mini last June, and then with all the moving that went on this year, my arts and crafts were mostly in boxes so I never got the chance to finish it, but now that I’m back in business, I’m aiming to get it done within the next couple weeks.

I used this printable canvas for the cover image as well as an image of my daughter and my neice running on the beach.

image

Love this stuff! I use it for sewing projects, but it also works great for scrapbooking. This brand was a bit sturdier than I like it to be for sewing projects, but it’s great for this purpose. It’s made by Printworks.

image

So I did one 2 page layout using that large canvas photo of my daughter and my neice, and another 2 page layout using 4 photos of my daughter and nephews.

image

It was so much fun, I hope to get another video up by monday… or perhaps Roo might wanna do one too…  Weekends are always super busy so it’s hard to get stuff together, but we will try!

image

So anyway, we will surely share whatever we come up with next!  Have a great week!

This is me

imageSo last month I took part in an online Studio Calico class called “This is me”with Lexi Bridges. She is awesome, just go check her out!

For some reason, I feel almost wrong scrapbooking about myself… like I’m saying…  “Hey, I think I’m cool!” or something.  It’s like a selfie on facebook, you just don’t do it unless there’s some good reason or you have something ridiculous on your face that covers most of it. I don’t know, but I think you all agree, it feels weird to move the direction of the focus off of our family, friends, and pets and onto ourselves.  And if you’re a mommy, it’s always all about the kids.

What intrigued me about this class was that the goal was to make a mini album. This is something I’ve never done. Like cards, I had little interest. But I can’t lie, I’m now hooked. I love the idea that you don’t have to pick out a cover (you can), but you can create the entire thing from scratch.

I cut some chipboard, covered it in fabric and vvvv wwaaa laaa I had the beginning and the end.  Now I just needed to fill it. To do the pic on the cover, I used printable fabric and then sewed it on the cover fabric that I chose before I modge-podged it to the chipboard.

image

The whole process was pretty dang enlightening. What was I going to include? That was tough… I feel like there are so many things that can be part of someone’s life.. things that affect them on a daily basis. Though I felt like cleaning the house was not something that particularly touched me on an emotional level. Though re-organizing does have a way of setting free the endorphins of inspiration!

No, but seriously… I pretty much have to re-arrange my peg board or something before every craft session to get the juices going. It’s like magic!

So anyway,  I narrowed my book down into a few catergories:

1. Family: ok, I know… but that’s what makes me who I am. My family. And they’re the most important. So of course, there’s a big spread of my favorite little lady as well as the Hubs and the fuzzys.

image

image

imageThe big swingy pic of Roo was also printable fabric.

2. Interests/hobbies: Basically my crafty adventures using paper and a collection of sewing machines that each have a strength and weakness.. one with the fatal weakness of not working! Yikes!
image

3.  Music: Besides giving piano lessons, music is a big part of my life. When I was making this book, I decided to collect a handful of artists that I admired and just make a little pic collage. By no means did this include all, but whatever came to mind or what I’ve been listening to lately. This is where I really got sad… and happy at the same time… because I couldn’t remember the last time I just sat and listened to an album… just for the sake of enjoying it. Granted, there’s been a lot of disney and nick music blasting in my car due to Roo, but in-between audiobooks, there hasn’t been a recent “GOD I CAN’T STOP LISTENING TO THIS SONG!” So I’m on a mission to change that. To make an effort to just listen like when I was a teenager with a new Belinda Carlisle cassette on the bed following along with the lyrics. image

 4: Some random current interests/likes.

5: Goal. Yes one goal. To cure my headaches.

6. A short note to my Grams.  She’s the one person I think about everyday. She was awesome and I miss her.

image

It’s not over embellished… some pages are down right messy! But I decided not to over-think it and just let it be what it was going to be. So it ended up longer than I imagined, and much more journally than I imagined. I felt like I had so much to say about every page…  and in the end I was re-introduced to myself and I’m now kinda itching to pick up things that I put down throughout the years.

To not do things because I care what people think, or don’t think… or say or don’t say… but just to do them because it’s fun and enjoyable.  To share for the sake of sharing and not worry about who will make fun of me tomorrow…  After all, does it matter? The most important things are the simple ones. So ENJOY them! And don’t forget to take pictures!

image

I know … I keep saying I’m going to do a workshop and never follow through… but I will! And I think this would be a great first project. So if anyone’s up for finding yourselves in June, I’ll make it a point to set something up.
