12 Crafts of Christmas – Day 9 – The Bunting of Christmas Past

image

So…  every year I seem to find a pile of old Christmas cards that never got sent. The pile of extra ones … that either came back in the mail… or were just… extra. And I’ve thought of making a mini album with them… but I’ve never gotten around to it.

So this idea came to mind… to print out the photos onto printable fabric and turn them into festive bunting.  lol.  That way I could display them for the Holidays and stroll down memory lane at the same time…

I suppose after another five years, I’ll make another one.

So bunting is one of those things I love to sew. I just love the look of it… when Eleanor (Roo) was a baby, I made a bunch and decorated her room with it. I made a big banner with her name on it. I made birthday bunting. I made Boo Bunting for Halloween. I even made Dora the Explorer bunting (still hanging in her room)!

So I thought, why not Christmas Bunting.  Actually, I was kinda shocked when I realized I’d never made any.

So two things are different about this bunting then other buntings I’ve made. One, I’ve never put photos on it. And two, I’ve never overlapped my pieces.

So anyway, this project is pretty easy and builds on skills we learned in some of our other Christmas Crafts like Bias Tape (apron straps) and sewing triangles…(tree ornaments).

You can make your triangles as big as you like, I made five bigger ones, and four smaller ones.

So you’ll need:

  1. Fabric- of your choosing
  2. Printable fabric
  3. Ribbon, string, or ric rac for the ends to hang it.
  4. Photos of Christmas past ready to print!

So here is our video tutorial!  Enjoy!

YTLH Double Time- JULY- Sketch

The YouTube Layout Hop for July is now under way….

If you’d like to join in on the action, click here:  YTLH

It was extra special for us because Roo got to join in on the fun this month!  She did an awesome job!

The theme this month was “Sketch.”  For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s when you base your layout on a “sketch” or an outline of sorts.  This design was created by one of our members: Meital Tene Zeevi

Sooooo…  we had to base our projects off of this sketch.

Roo used some pics from last summer of her and her cousin Luke at the beach and boardwalk…  (from the same pile of pics I’m using for the Beach mini album)

I love seeing the evolving mess that occurs when she gets into her work.  lol.  And I guess it’s not so far off from what my side of the table looks like after a project…

 Roo’s layout:

Stuff Roo used:

Mists
Masks
Stamps
Washi Tape
Stickers, Stickers, Stickers…
Cardstock from Chalk it Up workshop kit

At some point she got into her sticker bin and then it was all over… anything went…  Hawaiian… Halloween… Hello Kitty…  iCarly…  and I think she even says something in her video about not caring that it’s not Halloween…

And speaking of the vid, here it is:

Fitty’s Layout:

And for my layout, I used a recent pic from the week before of Roo in the grass patiently awaiting  for R5 to hit the stage.

Stuff Fitty used:

Heidi Swapp Texture paste
Heidi Swapp Planner embellishments
Heidi Swapp Color Shine
Heidi Swapp Mini Stencils

I used something new in this layout… Texture Paste!  Love it!  It dried pretty fast and I used it just like modeling paste.  A bit thinner and the Heidi Swapp brand I got came in a bunch of colors.  Really happy with the results!  And I even sewed through it… (don’t do that)

So you decide who stuck to the sketch best…   I think we both kinda strayed a bit…

Here’s my vid:

Both our vids have a similar intro.  We decided to get silly since Roo was joining in the fun…  But we kinda ran outta time due to the fact we were leaving for PA for four days and getting back today, so that left no editing time or uploading time.  And we all know it can sometimes take 3 days for your video to upload.  hahaha

Enjoy the weekend!

More Summer Art

Well… this was supposed to be within the realm of the hashtag #LoveSummerArt party, but youtube decided it didn’t want to upload my video till wednesday… so it missed the cut-off!

But none the less, it is an update to my Mini Beach Album!

image

These pages feature Norah and Eleanor again. The left photo being my favorite from the whole bunch all together…

image

These pages use a lot of gel medium in matte.  I kinda use it to hold the whole thing together.

Also in use are the following:

Stamps, mists, misc. book pages, scrapbook paper, a piece of flair, stamps, thread, a couple brads, black india ink, watercolor, and a very delicate die cut made by my Silhouette.  LOVE THAT MACHINE!!!

And here is the process vid!

#LoveSummerArt

So there’s this amazing Hashtag Party goin’ on this weekend and it’s all kinds of Artastic!!  #LOVESUMMERART

If you’re an artist/creator youtuber, you can join the facebook group here: Youtube Channel Art and Crafts

If you are not a youtube creator and just want to enjoy the Arty vids, then just simply type in the hashtag #LoveSummerArt in the search bar on youtube and see what comes up!  I happened upon this by accident really… lol.  So as usual, I had like a day to come up with something… but it gave me an opportunity to pick up something I started and never finished.

So here is my #LoveSummerArt vid:

I had started a “beach” mini last June, and then with all the moving that went on this year, my arts and crafts were mostly in boxes so I never got the chance to finish it, but now that I’m back in business, I’m aiming to get it done within the next couple weeks.

I used this printable canvas for the cover image as well as an image of my daughter and my neice running on the beach.

image

Love this stuff! I use it for sewing projects, but it also works great for scrapbooking. This brand was a bit sturdier than I like it to be for sewing projects, but it’s great for this purpose. It’s made by Printworks.

image

So I did one 2 page layout using that large canvas photo of my daughter and my neice, and another 2 page layout using 4 photos of my daughter and nephews.

image

It was so much fun, I hope to get another video up by monday… or perhaps Roo might wanna do one too…  Weekends are always super busy so it’s hard to get stuff together, but we will try!

image

So anyway, we will surely share whatever we come up with next!  Have a great week!

Photo share: All dressed up and goin’ nowhere

Some of you have little girls.  And some of you have little GIRLS!  I never in a million years thought I would have such a little girly girliest of the girls girl.  There is nothing TOM or BOY about it.  It’s a dress everyday no matter what we’re doing.  Like today for instance…

photo

My mom bought this Barbie Jeep from a yard sale last summer, but it didn’t have a battery. She kept it at her house but now that she’s moving, we inherited it. It doesn’t seem to bother Eleanor in the least that it doesn’t go anywhere, she still decided to get dressed and go for a “ride”.

And a bonus feature is the car phone. Not sure how I feel about this… Are we just training our kids to use the phone while they drive? Oh who am I kidding… they’ll have it hard wired to their hands free brains by the time she gets her license.

And I’m afraid Norma gets to ride shotgun and listen to the “pretend” music that Eleanor is singing at the top of her lungs with whether she likes it or not.

I’m pretty lucky that this kid can entertain herself anywhere, anytime, with anything… As long as she has access to her dress collection, she’s good. I could really learn from her. Every time I’m stressed about life… I could probably just put on my party dress and dance away the blues.

I do plan on getting a battery for that car before summer… we’ll see.
